Bye Bye Golden West
I have not been to the Golden West in about five years and it was ten years before that but I was sad to hear it had burned down. I remember back when I was still called a Gen x-er in the early 90s. It was that period in one's life before responsibility when you are invincible. You went out on Tuesday or Thursday (after playing a few hours of Sega NHL hockey or drinking beers in the driveway) because that's when national bands would be on their way to LA or back and would stop in the Q for a few bucks. The Albuquerque downtown passport was in vogue and got you into five bars for five bucks on Friday or Saturday night. The Zone hadn't been invented yet. Before the faux irish bar and that creepy bar where they make the women dress like school girls came to town. There was the Dingo, the El Rey, Beyond Ordinary, the bar before launchpad (name?). The sunshine was struggling but putting up a good fight before going corporate. And there was the Golden West which just had a great vibe and was a great place to see a band. If I were 23 now, I think the Golden West would still be on my list of places to enjoy life (along with Atomic and probably the little bar). For me the Golden West was pretty much the last vestige of this period in Downtown and I will miss looking in their window as I go by and thinking about all of the bands I am missing. So good bye Golden West and rest in peace.

I've been racking my brain all morning. Did the Launchpad used to be called Time Out?
yes it was called Time Out.
I saw every kick-ass early 90s indie band at the GW. Hell, we'd go even if we didn't know who was playing. Between that and the Dingo, it was my only chance to see decent bands live. Too bad nobody comes here anymore.
who ever said no one comes here is a tard. yo' dude what exit you from, does jersey even have a hockey team, oh yeah, they used to be the rockies from colorado. jeez, remember when the redwings sucked and mcsorley played for the oilers and was gretzkeys hitman? I really don't think that the etouffee I made was the best ever but if you wanna give props than that is cool. It took me for ever to find this but i did. I remember everyone who was in the room that night and, honestly, I thought handmodel was your wife, or ex wife, who knows, its been so long.anyway, I am Dick on DCF, although I think I am being blocked, probably scientologists or something, they are taking over this town. BTW I still have that Bruins LP you guys bought me, and I cant thank you enough for it. it was from 72 and I think that was the last Cup the bruins ever won. anyway, drop me a line we'll stay in touch ( as long as your not a scientologist, than I am in trouble for saying bad things.)P.S. I'm Drunk
