Wow. Bitter much? Our boys came through and we couldn't be happier. And just as in 2004 the Red Sox came back when it looked a little dreary ... We've won twice in 89 years. I can see how that might annoy you. And we call it Fenway and not "the Fenway". Didn't see any rioting either ... huh.
We Nackenzie's must bring the Red Sox luck..they won the series the year John and Stephanie were married, and now this year, when Alec and Kathleen were married..How about another Mackenzie wedding next year???
There are 30 teams in MLB. Of those 30 teams only 7 have payrolls over 100 million dollars. Of those 7 teams only 3 are over 110 million dollars:
NY METS @ 116+ BOSTON RED SOX @ 143+ NY YANKEES @ 195+
The only reason the Red Sox aren't even closer to the Yankees in payroll is that they lost the A-Rod sweepstakes a few years ago by trying to circumnavigate the leagues contract rules. If the Yankees = The Evil Empire, as one noted Red Sox muckety-muck called them, then what does that make the Sox? Haliburton? Also, it's a fact that the Red Sox have the most expensive ticket prices of any MLB team.
The Yankees AND the Red Sox are what's wrong with baseball and to turn a blind eye to that fact is reflective of: a) not caring the health of baseball and b) being a homer.
Jealous? Nah, more like disgusted.
That said, my best friend, my little brother and my son (and some of youz) are all huge Red Sox fans, and I root for them more than many other teams. I like Pedroia and Ellsbury and I love Youk and Big Papi, but that doesn't change the fact that they beat a team with 1/3 the size of their payroll and while I wasn't rooting for the Rockies, per se, you can understand why I wouldn't have minded the Rockies taking the title.
On the rioting tip, I suppose they weren't in your remote part of New England, but in Boston proper it was a different story.
There was also rioting after the Cleveland series.
Yeah, it's Fenway, but I guess you get to be smug and condescending after two titles in four years. You'd think Red Sox fans would be less like Yankee fans after all those years in the wilderness, but you'd be wrong.
And yes, the MacKenzies are good luck for the Sox, but if WS title is only in the offing when a MacKenzie gets married, then more than likely, you all will be in the weeds until little Rory comes of age.
I was quoting Jonathan Richman "I walk through the Fenway, I have my heart in my hands.I understand a girlfriend." And, damn right I'm bitter; a bitter Yankees fan, straight up. Think I'll go tip over my neighbors Mini Cooper now. Harrumph.
Sorry I didn't catch the Jonathan Richman reference (though I don't think he was talking about the Ballpark but what we call the Fen which is an actual park ... could be wrong). Love him.
I agree that all Professional athletes make too much money. As do most actors, singers, politicians ... I can't control that. But I do love the Red Sox and can't I shout out to them without your raining on my parade? They won the World Series! Fake a smile for me if you have to. BTW, Pedroia, Ellsbury, and several others are former Portland Sea Dogs.
Rioting? Yes, I live in the remote North of New England (?) but I don't consider some drunks getting over excited and tipping over some cars or a trash barrel as rioting. Purleeeze! That happens anywhere and anytime that some team wins something. If anything, it was minor here. And I wouldn't call it "rioting" (that is implicitely violent and involves injury and usually death). Some guys got arrested ... good.
As for another MacKenzie wedding. Seems I'm the last one left. And I don't see any takers ...
I wouldn't call it "raining on your parade", but keeping with the liquid metaphor: I was taking the piss, as they say across the pond.
And on the payroll tip, it ain't about athletes making mad money (get what you can I say), but about the inequitable situation that allows the two biggest teams in baseball to operate on a different playing field (no pun intended) than the everybody else. That sucks for the game. That sucks for the fans.

And aren't we all a little worse off for it.
Yeah, let's roam the streets of the Fenway and riot.
Mental giants.
you're just jealous.

I agree with you about the payrolls. And don't think I didn't catch your mention of Rorie as the next married MacKenzie ...
Tipping over cars is a tad bit violent and does qualify as rioting, I would say.
