A friend told me about a cool website. Actually, I met up with her a few days ago to catch up after her summer spent teaching English to children in Japan. Seems they spent much of their time sightseeing and bar hopping (not with the children ...). She recounted her adventures in Japan, asked about my adventures (well ... nothing new, really) and then jumped head first into everything there is to know about her current boyfriend, a painter. He's struggling but so talented. Especially his city scapes. You've got to check them out. Go to Etsy, he's selling some pieces there. http://www.etsy.com/index.php

Etsy touts itself as "Your place to buy and sell all things handmade". And it really is just that. On Etsy you can buy or sell art, bags and purses, books and zines, ceramics and pottery, clothing, jewelry, glass, furniture and all manner of unique, handmade items. Jenabeat could sell the magnificent pillows she makes, if she were so inclined. Perhaps you've all been hip to Etsy for some time and I'm just a newbie. I clicked around there for about ten minutes and recommend checking it out. Especially if you're a backer of small-time, uncelebrated artists (you won't find Andy Warhol or Thomas Kincaid here) and don't have a bundle to spend. I found just one drawback.

It took me about forty-five minutes to sign up and log on to the blasted site. Why? Every username I thought of and felt happy with was already taken. My old tried and trues were not available. Crazy. If you're like me you use the same few names over and over on various sites. They're easy to remember and you just get used to them. And maybe I care a little too much about something as trivial as a user name. I like to feel some connection to the word. I can't explain it ... but thought goes into it. But these damn artsy types had everything covered. And I thought I was being smart and clever. Bah. Some potential usernames I tried, in no particular order:

Iris
Sidecar
Wednesday
Pandora
Carolina
Laika
Capricorn
MacKenzie
Zephyr
Palindrome
Nora Charles
Anaphora
Doppelganger
Katydid
Nancy Drew
Cardamom

I finally keyed in Pennyweight for no particular reason other than liking the sound of it. Lo and behold, it was available and my account was created. But, honestly, who are these people? Anaphora? She's on there somewhere selling her wares and I will damn well investigate for myself. And what would have happened if I'd chosen the user name Mary straight off? I'd have saved alot of time I suspect.

I looked at Esty before a long time ago and then forgot the name. Thanks for reminding me about it! Also, thanks for telling us all of your potential user names. How about that password now?

Most of those user names I've never tried before. I was just attempting to be artsy aka pretentious as that seemed to be in order. Little did I know how true that would prove to be.

And, you can have my password if I can have your credit card number.
