I Got My Sticker

Early voting is a godsend.

Two blocks over to City Hall. One flight up and down the hall. One minute in line behind two other women. Three minutes in the voting booth. Done.

I voted today and it took 5 minutes max.

There's no telling what it'll look like at my polling place next Tuesday. Lines, madness, mayhem.

If you haven't filled out an absentee ballot yet then you must be among the undecided (who are these people?). Or just plain lazy. Get off your ass and put down that remote and vote already.

Okay, I admit I've only gone the absentee route once before. I'd just moved apartments and wasn't re-registered. I voted at City Hall moments after registering. It was my only option. George H. W. Bush was up for re-election. Opposing him was Bill Clinton and Ralph Nader. This was serious.

Every other year since the age of 18 I've hauled my heinie down to the polls and voted on that ominous Tuesday in November. And I expect lines and waiting. Hell, I hope for it. The ridiculously low voter turn out year after year after year in this country is shameful.

But, well, I just wanted to get it over with this year. I knew how I was voting on every issue and every candidate and that wasn't changing.

I feel good ... about the act of voting and about my vote. Yes, I got my sticker ... I took two actually.

And another absentee ballot voting story I discovered ... well, it just warmed my little heart:

I'm one of those who waits for 'the day' to vote, but vote I will.. It's an exciting time!

People are (were) waitin' in line to vote early, so what's the diff? Plus, you can't vote on election day if you vote early. Whatever happened to tradition in this country?

And lastly, a Mother Jones link? Really? Hippy.
