I've been meaning to post this for a while, and it'll work hand-in-hand with Wednesday's previous post. Stolen blatantly from Slate or Salon or some other cool-as-fuck "news" site beginning with the letter "S".
The GOPs ridiculing of Obama as a community organizer rankled me to no end. What he did as a 24-year-old straight out of Columbia University was to work in poor neighborhoods in the South Side of Chicago in a largely losing battle to transform the inner city and create new jobs for the minorities living there. He succeeded in influencing law-makers to make it mandatory to test all apartment buildings for asbestos. Isn't this "giving back" something that all young adults should be encouraged to do? Shouldn't this be lauded rather than scoffed at?
Also, I debated whether or not to bring up the names of Palin's children in my post. They are Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper and Trig. Apparently Track was so-named because the entire family enjoyed running and her parent's were track coaches. I accept that. Everyone is entitled to name their children as they wish. Perhaps if I have any I could name them Grid and Fenway ... after my two favorite sports, crosswords and Red Sox baseball.
